Fabric size calculator
Start with 14ct Aida, or choose your preferred fabric count. All inputs are editable.
With 0 cm allowance, the cut size equals the stitched area. Add extra fabric if you need space to hold, hoop, finish, or frame the work.
Formula: stitched size (cm) = stitches ÷ fabric count × 2.54. Cut size = stitched size + (2 × border allowance).

How many floss strands?
Aida fabric count tells you how many squares fit in one inch. Lower counts have larger squares and commonly need more strands for coverage; higher counts have smaller squares and usually need fewer.
A common starting point. Try 3 if you prefer more coverage.
| Aida count | Full-cross floss strands | Stitches per cm |
|---|---|---|
| 11ct | 3–4 | 4.3 |
| 14ct | 2 | 5.5 |
| 16ct | 2 | 6.3 |
| 18ct | 1–2 | 7.1 |
| 20ct | 1–2 | 7.9 |
Strand counts are general starting points for six-strand cotton embroidery floss, not specific instructions supplied by the creator. Separate only the recommended number of strands from the six-strand thread. Stitch a few test crosses to judge coverage and adjust for thread type, tension, and personal preference. Follow the creator’s chart instructions for specialty stitches and backstitch when available.
